Cantina Gino Bellucci Back to: Colli Perugini Wine Producers

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY
The Cantine Gino Bellucci winery began its activity in the 1960s and proudly bears the name of its founder. Born in 1921, Gino grew up on the land in a farming family. He was a true Umbrian enology pioneer and although it was not the best of times, he built a small bottling plant that was renovated in the 1970s. Considerable investments were also made to purchase a further fifty hectares of land, all situated on the gently rolling hills just outside Perugia between San Fortunato della Collina and San Martino in Colle. The Cantine Bellucci are constantly being improved with the replanting of vineyards and updating of the technology used to make the wine and bring it to the bottle. The wines they make are sold all over Italy, distributed through many channels and in keeping with the history of this winery.
THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR
The vineyards are located above the road that leads to Marsciano from Perugia, known as the Colli Perugini, or Perugian Hills. More precisely, they are in the areas of San Fortunato della Collina, San Martino in Colle and San Martino in Campo. Fifty hectares of hardy terroir where grapevines thrive.
THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN
The majority of the rows of grapevines produce pinot grigio, followed by grechetto, merlot, incrocio manzoni, falanghina and sangiovese.
WINES
Their most important DOC wines are Colli Perugini BianCo and Colli Perugini rosso. The former is made with trebbiano, verdicchio and grechetto, and offers a delicate aroma and fresh palate. Their red is made with sangiovese and montepulciano, aged in large barrels, and boasts a pleasant fruitiness.
