Cantina Zazzera

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

If it is true that small is better, than the Zazzera cannot be but marvelous. Their numbers are artisanal and the setting is a tiny valley right by the Monti Martani (just a few kilometres from Todi), the entire context is more than charming and includes a healthy dose of spirituality. It was here in this hilly terrain that the estate came into being. Although now modern, its roots dig deep into history with cultivations of grain and olive groves that have been making olive oil forever. It wasn’t until 1997 that grapevines were planted here, their roots joining the others in exploiting the potential of this magnificent soil. Every member of the family here works with dedication and commitment to lovingly tend the vineyards, harvest the grapes and transform them into wine.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The estate sits on the hilltop and is surrounded by some thirty-five hectares of land, eight of which are covered in vineyards planted between 1997 and 1999, and all belonging to the local DOC appellation.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

Of the whites they grow, grechetto di Todi is the most important one. Their reds include merlot and, of course, sangiovese.

WINES

Barbadoro is a Grechetto di todi wine with a golden yellow colour and a powerful fragrance that has evident traces of flowers and fruits with yellow flesh. It is a rich and full-bodied wine that carries within it the distinct acidity typical of the grapes from this vine. A beautifully made white with a flavourful and authentic taste which is wonderful to drink and has great aromatic depth. A fine example of its kind.
