Cantina Colle Uncinano

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

The most recent origins of this winery date to the late 1990s, when its owners decided to renovate an old vineyard that belonged to their estate and which gave it its name: Uncinano. Their passion for wine did the rest and convinced them to plant new vines year after year until, finally, they also built their own cantina in the spring of 2005. It was a watershed year for them, considering that at the same time they were also busy with a project to convert an old 17th century farmhouse into the Molino Antico agriturismo. Not only, but they also had their first harvest that year, one that saw the beginning of their winemaking efforts as a business. It is a solid and determined business focused on getting the very best out of what the Spoletino territory has to offer. As the owners of Colle Uncinano themselves say “what distinguishes one wine from another is its goodness, what makes it unique is how it was made.”

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The 20 hectare vineyard is located on the southeastern side of their hill at an altitude of 348 metres on the slopes of the Monti Martani. The area enjoys wide thermal excursions between daytime and night, thus creating a microclimate which is ideal for vines to grow in. The earth here is rich with essential substances and boasts a muddy and sandymuddy surface layer.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

In their order of total production, they cultivate sangiovese, merlot, trebbiano spoletino, grechetto and sagrantino.

WINES

Their DOC wines are led by ArAminto Silver, a Colli mArtAni GreChetto made with grapes picked late in the harvest. It is a fresh white wine, flavourful and with a solid structure that features aromatic traces of yellow fruit and spices. Their SoviAno reGAle is a Colli mArtAni SAnGioveSe that is rich and intense, bearing nuances of ripe fruit and a slight hint of grass. In order to exalt its fruity flavour and enhance its drinkability, it is aged only in steel containers.
