Cantina Fratelli Pardi

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

The Pardi family history is closely intertwined with that of the town of Montefalco and the finest of its qualities. In 1919, brothers Alberto, Francesco and Alfredo Pardi were already engaged in winemaking. They processed grapes grown near the San Francesco complex by hand and with passion and the resulting wine was of such high quality that it sold far and wide. The Vatican City was one of their most elite customers. This history has now been revived by their young great-grandchildren – Francesco, Gianluca and Albertino Pardi – who, as the new millennium approached, decided to follow in the footsteps of their elders and bring the winery up to 21st century standards. The winery itself is located just outside of the ancient stone walls of Montefalco, known as the “balcony of Umbria”, its ties to the city and its essence intact, an enduring homage to tradition and a way of life.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The eleven hectares of Pardi vineyards are situated on the gently rolling hills of Casale, Campolungo, Lasignano and Pietrauta. The terrain here is predominantly sedimentary and the east-south-east exposure ensures a fine equilibrium between the vines and their fruits.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

Their black grapes are: sagrantino, sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The white grapes they grow are grechetto, chardonnay and trebbiano spoletino.

WINES

The winery produces wines that have an innate balance and a certain expressive delicacy. They are less overbearing and muscular than others, with a noble soul that whispers and which can be found more in the aroma than in the structure. This is true both of the Montefalco Sagrantino, which ages in barriques for up to eighteen months, and for the Montefalco roSSo, which is softer but has the same style. They make an intriguing Montefalco Sagrantino PaSSito, and the “rare” Montefalco Bianco colle di giove is delicious.
