Cantina Peppucci

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

If it is true that wine is the offspring of its terroir, the wine made by the Peppucci family is blessed with a remarkable advantage. The vineyards and cantina are located in a truly marvelous setting on a hilltop with an altitude of more than four hundred meters above sea level from where it looks out over the valley dominated by Todi. Petroro castle, which was built in the 13th century by Benedictine monks of the Vallombrosa congregation, is not far away and sits along the ancient Roman road that served as the northern link between Todi and the via Flaminia. This abbey now belongs to the Peppucci family and is the heart of the estate now run by Elisabetta Agnese and her brother Filippo with the help of their parents, Piero and Luisa. The brand new winery is located at the back of Sant’Antimo on Montorsolo hill and overlooks the vineyards. The wines they make are the embodiment of this splendid land where “the altitude, the framing woods and the rocky ground are ventilated by a constant breeze and warmed by a sun that shines on the vines from dawn to sunset” and give meaning to the lives of those who work there.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The vineyard spreads out over thirteen hectares of ground whose clayey limestone composition, position and exposure make it perfect for growing wine grapes.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

They cultivate grechetto di Todi, sangiovese, sagrantino, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and franc. A wide preference has been given to so-called typical vines, while the international grapes are grown in smaller quantities.

WINES

The red wines they make are fine examples of the local IGT (Typical Geographical Indication), while their white has all the characteristics of the districts appellation. The Grechetto di todi Montorsolo has grand character and is the perfect representative of the potential of this autochthonous varietal, which here in Todi has a precise and historical raison d’être. It has a complex aroma and a palate that does not shy away from being paired with daring dishes.
