Cantina Terre Margaritelli

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

The passion that ties the Margaritelli family to the land is not something that came about yesterday, and their commitment to its valorization also dates back in time. Their name and their story is indelibly linked to that luxuriant, unique, rewarding and very real land. It is the nature of a regione blessed with a truly grandiose heritage of art and environment, with a rich tradition of mysticism and sacred cults. As we said, the link did not come about yesterday but had its beginnings in 1870, a date that sounds very far away – but not so far away that the Margaritellis of today could ever forget the hard work and love that their ancestors put into the creation of their enterprise. It is exactly this respect for the past that has given them their commitment to imbue their wines with the values of honesty, as well as of passion and fantasy. A commitment that for decades now has inspired and distinguished the men of the family. All of this can be tasted in Terre Margaritelli wines, organically grown and made on the lovely hills above Miralduolo, next to Torgiano, in vineyards that look out over Assisi and onto Perugia.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The hill above Miralduolo hosts the single 52 hectare vineyard. It enjoys a perfect exposure to the sun’s rays and is part of the Torgiano DOC appellation district, which also boasts a DOCG Riserva. The terrain is in keeping with the classic characteristics that distinguish the area.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

The winery uses mostly sangiovese and canaiolo varietals for their reds, and grechetto and trebbiano for the whites. It is as though they seek ways to emphasize their love for the importance of the district’s history.

WINES

Among the wines that grace the district’s appellation is Torgiano rosso MiranTico, made with sangiovese (half), canaiolo, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. It smells of ripe red fruit and offers a hint of spiciness, its palate is sinuous and full-bodied. Their Torgiano Bianco cosTellaTo is also good, made with grechetto and chardonnay and aged for a few weeks in French oak barriques.
