A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

Cavalier Gustavo Tiburzi was a successful businessman in the meat industry who, at the beginning of this century, was so intrigued by wine that he decided to plant a few hectares of sagrantino vines of his own and start a winery. The area he chose for his new enterprise was Montefalco, not just anywhere, but right outside the town’s historical centre, which is also famous as the “Balcony of Umbria” and an ideal place to grow the special vine. The Tiburzi family is deeply involved in the valorization of the district’s appellations and their meticulous work has resulted in increasingly gratifying wines of quality that seem to improve from vintage to vintage.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The land on which he planted his vines covers 10 hectares and sits at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. The most important of his vineyards, the one in which he grows sagrantino, has a southern exposure and is dense with vines.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

Apart from the sagrantino, without a doubt the district’s most valued varietal, he also grows sangiovese, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and ciliegiolo as well as white grechetto, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc grapes.

WINES

His Montefalco Sagrantino Gustavo Tiburzi is made using only the finest of the fruit of the sagrantino vine. It is a fine wine remarkable for its qualities, its depth and the original fragrance which is nonetheless a true representation of the terroir. The winery’s Sagrantino taccalite, made in a strictly limited edition, is exquisite, as is the Montefalco rosso Santambrà they make by blending sangiovese, sagrantino, merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
