Tili Vini

A PORTRAIT OF THE WINERY

The Tili winery is a family enterprise which came about in 1978. It sits on the slopes of Mount Subasio, a stone’s throw from Assisi, where olive trees and vineyards have thrived, records tell us, since the year 1200. It is difficult to imagine what the family’s founder actually saw here when he came down from northern Europe on the heels of Barbarossa, but one thing is certain, since that time the Tilis have always cultivated this rocky terrain with great love and managed to harvest the best of its fruits. The winery has, of course, been updated since then, modernized and streamlined. But an old dream remains the same: to send its wines to the far corners of the earth so that wine lovers everywhere can get to know and enjoy it. In their continued commitment to this dream the finest vines have been selected, pesticides have been banished, weed killer and any other synthetic products banned in order to fully embrace organic methods and ideals.

THE VINEYARD AND TERROIR

The vines here grow in a medium consistency soil that is poor in organic material and rich with fine gravel, trace minerals and sand. These are ideal conditions for the vines, which send their roots deep into an arid and permeable earth which in turn enriches the organoleptic qualities of the grapes with special saline components. A meteorological station at the vineyards permits the owners to keep a close watch on the vineyard at all times and reduces the need for treatments.

THE GRAPE VARIETIES GROWN

The main white grapes grown here are grechetto, trebbiano and chardonnay. The black grapes include sangiovese grosso, merlot, sagrantino, pinot nero and cabernet sauvignon.

WINES

The Tili wines are faithful representatives of the Assisi DOC appellation they represent. Fresh and spirited, Assisi BiAnco has a pleasant acidity, while the Assisi Grechetto is richer and more full-bodied. Their Assisi Pinot nero is delicate and fragrant while the Assisi rosso is more decisive and fruity, made with sangiovese, canaiolo and merlot grapes.
